Stray cat needs loving home

Residents rally around stray cat who has taken up residence at a La Lucia parking lot.

A STRAY cat that has taken up residence in a La Lucia parking lot has grabbed the hearts of the Durban North community, which has rallied around him. While he may not have reached the heady heights of feline stardom like his uMhlanga counterpart, Skabenga, Ginger, as he is affectionately being called, has already got his fair share of admirers.

For the past six months, the stray cat has roamed the parking lot and, thanks to residents, Leslie Myburgh, Jill Chinery, Penny Toubkin and other concerned locals, he is being cared for.

“I noticed him walking around the tennis courts and he looked so thin. I was concerned that he may be run over or – even worse – starve to death. So I began to bring food and soon other residents began helping out by bringing food or making beds for him.

“He has got a wonderful nature and at the moment we are hoping someone can give him a loving home because as much as he is being taken care of, this is not the place for him to live. With Diwali and the stormy season ahead, I’m concerned for his safety,” Myburgh said.

There is also a poster of Ginger adorning the tree in the parking lot and Myburgh hopes the young feline will find a permanent home.
