New beginnings for Columbia Primary

Grace Family Church recently spent some time revamping and beautifying Columbia Primary School in Kenville.

COLUMBIA Primary School in Kenville was buzzing with excitement recently as pupils, staff and volunteers of Grace Family Church spent the morning revamping the school grounds.

The school has been in a state of disrepair for several years, as pupils have been forced to learn in classrooms with broken windows and furniture.

As part of their Day Mission Projects the volunteers spent the morning painting four classrooms and planting indigenous vegetation at the school’s entrance. Soccer nets and balls as well as new furniture were also donated to the school to facilitate learning.

Last year, the church organised a similar project at the school, where they painted the roof and the foundation phase of the school, and replaced all the broken windows on campus, said Prem Naidoo, the school principal.

“We are so grateful for the church’s assistance. Many of the children at the school come from disadvantaged backgrounds. It helps us to teach them that where they come from does not define who they are,” she said.

Dave Richter, missions and justice director at the church, said they were excited to give the school another boost.

“Once a month we organise a mission to come out and assist the community. Our ethos is to rope in the beneficiaries in our projects to give them a sense of pride and ownership. So it has been great to see the staff and students take part,” he said.
