uMhlanga Ocean Basket held up

A large amount of cash was taken in a Lagoon Drive armed robbery.

THE Ocean Basket on Lagoon Drive was held up by armed men at about 12.15pm today. The manager of the establishment was also assaulted by the men. Though it cannot be confirmed, a reported R50 000 was taken in the daring robbery. The men were also reportedly armed with handguns.

“One of the suspects hit the manageress over the head with the butt of a gun. The restaurant is closed for the rest of the day and will re-open tomorrow,” said Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

The victims of the robbery will also undergo trauma counselling.

This is the second robbery to hit the popular seafood franchise after a robbery at the Durban North branch in September last year in which R19 000 was taken.
