Mt Edgecombe resident killed in bridge collapse

Heartbreak for a local family after the horrific bridge collapse on the M1.

WHILE residents in Johannesburg are coming to terms with the tragedy of the bridge collapse on the M1 at Grayston Drive, the nightmare is only beginning for a local family who lost their son in the accident. Among the two people killed in the construction disaster was Mount Edgecombe resident, Adrian Doodnath.

The 27-year-old was travelling with his wife, his parents and cousin when the scaffolding on the bridge collapsed on top of their Toyota Hilux.

According to a family relative who did not want to be named, Doodnath went to Johannesburg for a meeting.

Several people have taken to Facebook to offer their condolences and pay tribute to the local businessman, who worked in the brake and clutch repairs industry.

Images taken moments after the collapse show Doodnath’s father, Ashley, who is visibly injured, sitting on the side of the highway and refusing to move until paramedics remove his son from the wreckage.

Former Lotus FM personality, JJ Mathura, who is personal friend of the family, took to Facebook to offer her messages of support.

“Tonight I saw a mother’s world fall apart. Today I experienced the most painful moment of my life. The greatest tragedy anyone can experience is the loss of a child. It puts life into perspective like nothing else. Tonight, I urge you to tell your children how much they mean to you and don’t forget to hug them just a little tighter,” she said.
