Yebo! Lets celebrate South Africa

SOUTH Africa is one of the most unique and vibrant countries on the planet, from its evolving economy to its variety of people and cultures to the breath-taking fauna and flora. Both locals and visiting tourists would find it difficult to dispute the unparalleled vibe that can be found within South Africa.

However, the beauty and positivity of the country is often overshadowed by the corruption, crime, poverty and other challenges faced by its leaders and citizens on a daily basis. This is where Derryn Campbell and Kirsty Stirton have stepped in.

The local duo have recently created Absolutely Awesome South Africa, an entertaining and informative book packed full of humour, history and interesting trivia surrounding South Africa. The beautifully designed book was created to capture the heart and the soul of South Africa, said Campbell, the book creator and publisher from Durban North.

“It is a celebration of South Africa. I had this vision of a fun, colourful coffee table book, which reminds us how far we have journeyed as a nation, how many obstacles we have overcome, how spectacularly beautiful South Africa is and how thrilling the experience of living in this country can be. I wanted to create a book which will influence the conversation we have when we are chatting around the braai,” added Campbell.

Absolutely Awesome South Africa follows the release of its successfully predecessor, Awesome South Africa.

“There was so much new and positive information to share and we had so much fun trying to decide what to include and how to design the variety of pages. I love that with every page you turn you never know what to expect – just like in South Africa,” said Stirton, the La Lucia graphic designer responsible for the creative design and layout of the book.

Readers can expect to find some information on the country’s various public holidays, lists and definitions on the local lingo, the meaning behind the names of streets and provinces, insight into the country’s sports, shipwrecks along our coastline, heritage sites, toyi toying, loadshedding, Mandela, Ubuntu, apartheid, the cultures and of course braaing and biltong.
