Police officers nabbed for robbery in Greenwood Park

Swift action from the Greenwood Park SAPS led to the arrest of four suspects.

FOUR men, two of whom are police officers, were arrested last night after a robbery in Greenwood Park. Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said the quartet had robbed a man and his friends of their cash and Canadian currency as they were driving along North Coast Road.

“The victim and his friends were on their way to the airport when they were stopped by the suspects, who were driving in a blue Kia. The victims were threatened with a firearm and robbed of their cash and Canadian currency. The suspects then fled the scene in their getaway vehicle and the police were notified.

“Greenwood Park police reacted swiftly, spotted the suspicious vehicle in the area and tried to stop it. The occupants fled the scene on foot towards the nearby bushes. The Durban K9 Unit as well as Inanda Tactical Response Team were called for assistance and all four suspects were arrested,” he said.

The money taken during the robbery was recovered, added Zwane. A state firearm suspected to have been used during the robbery was also recovered as well as a bullet-proof vest. All four suspects, aged between 25 and 50, are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
