Rinaldo Road needs speed humps says homeowner

Rinaldo Road crash victim says his family and pet dog are lucky to have escaped unscathed.

‘WE are all shaken, but thankfully no one was seriously injured’. Those were the words of a Rinaldo Road homeowner after a truck crashed through his wall earlier this afternoon. Vijen Govender said he came home to find absolute chaos.

It’s alleged the truck driver swerved to avoid two cars which had slowed down in front of him. He clipped a car driving up the road which nudged the truck in the direction of the concrete wall.

“This road seriously needs speed humps, there are just so many cars speeding. My dog, Nemo, was lucky to escape injury. The truck crashed through the wall and into his enclosure. I’m glad nobody was in the yard at the time,” he said.

Govender said he was pleased with the owners of the truck company for their speedy response.

“The owners brought some material to build a makeshift fence and it’s a good thing they are taking ownership. They’ve been very forthcoming with help and said they will pay for the damage.”

Rakesh Lutchman, who is renting the granny cottage on the property, and who was at home at the time of the crash says he remembers hearing a loud crash.

“It was just the loudest bang I’ve ever heard. I walked out to the front of the yard which was engulfed in smoke and dust. I saw the driver cradling his arm and asked if he was ok. The paramedics arrived shortly after. This could have been so much worse,” Lutchman said.

Both men have called for speed calming measures at the top of Rinaldo Road near the intersection of Tipuana Drive to curb speeding.
