Fashion fundraiser aims to facilitate sustainability

Local resident is hosting a high tea to raise funds for a faith-based NPO as well as collect clothing donations for her sustainable business project.

DANIYEL Berry, a local stylist, has always had a passion for fashion. Recently, however, she realised that she could use her passion and talents to help others. She specifically hoped to assist a faith-based NPO that is close to her heart, Community Outreach Programme Trust (COPT).

This was the birth of the Spring Clean Your Life charity drive, to be held at the Coastlands Hotel in uMhlanga Ridge on 29 September at 12.30pm. Entrance costs R300.

The fundraising high tea encourages guests to take along up to six good quality unwanted clothing items and accessories that will be swapped.

“As a stylist I have found that people often have clothes that they never wear or don’t like anymore. However, these clothes are still in excellent condition. At the event they can swap these clothes for other items they would actually wear and enjoy,” said Berry.

In addition, an appeal has also been made for old clothes that will be used to teach men and women from disadvantaged communities how to start and run sustainable businesses.

“I will teach these individuals to start up their business, sell the donated clothes for a profit and to become self sustainable,” explained Berry.

All the funds raised during the event will be donated to COPT and it’s initiatives. COPT functions through the ‘touch and teach’ model, whereby its members aim to change the lives of underprivileged communities by feeding, clothing and teaching skills.
