Mrs SA finalist supports cancer survivors

Glenashley's Aldytha da Silva managed to raised R72 000 for CANSA through her fashion showcase event, which featured 10 cancer survivors.

WORLD peace is not something that Mrs South Africa finalist, Aldytha da Silva, is hoping to facilitate. The Glenashley resident said she is focusing her efforts on making a small but meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Earlier this month she hosted a Cuppa for CANSA event, entitled ‘BeYouToTheFull Cancer Conquering Couture Fashion Showcase’, which featured 10 cancer survivors.

As a make-up artist, Da Silva wanted to use her skills and passion to dispel the myths and standards of beauty.

“I wanted to help these women feel beautiful and proud. They have walked an incredible and courageous road and deserve to look amazing. I also wanted them to stand boldly as beacons for other cancer victims, also as encouragement, so that they will realise that cancer does not have to be a death sentence and they can retain their femininity and sense of being a woman,” she said.

According to Da Silva, she has been fascinated by make-up and modelling since the age of ten.

“I remember buying a Vogue magazine with my pocket money and being absolutely enthralled by the fabrics, models and make-up. From the age of 11, I began taking modelling classes and participating in pageants and shows. Soon I began teaching modelling classes and eventually became a make-up artist. Now, at age 40, I get to experience my passion once again while helping others. Watching these woman blossom and boldly strut at the fashion show was incredible,” she said.

In addition to the fashion show, the survivors were also given a free fashion shoot which celebrated their beauty. Da Silva’s event raised R72 000 for CANSA.
