Mom arrested for murder of baby girl

The infant died three days after she had been rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma.

A 42-YEAR-OLD Avoca mother has been charged with the murder of her two-year-old infant. This came after the uncle was forced to rush the little girl to the emergency room earlier this month. The mother appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

According to W/O Leon Audh of Greenwood Park SAPS, the uncle rushed the child to the Kwa-Mashu Poly Clinic on Saturday, 5 September with severe injuries to her face and head. Three days later, however, the baby girl died due to the extent of her injuries.

Audh said the uncle raised allegations of abuse shortly after the incident, which resulted in a murder case being opened by the state.

The mother has not pleaded and is expected to make another court appearance soon.
