ECR says they are ‘obsessive about safety’

No arrests have been made in the killing of a young man at Durban Day yesterday night.

EAST COAST RADIO has responded to the speculation ripe on social media platforms that the popular event was overcrowded.

This comes after the stabbing incident that rocked Durban Day late yesterday evening in which a 19-year-old boy was killed. “The venue wasn’t overcrowded. Capacity at People’s Park is determined by the city and the safety officer and we are guided by them. Whilst capacity was 18 000, ticket sales were capped at 16 500,” East Coast Radio’s general manager, Boni Mchunu, said on Monday morning.

Mchunu added that ECR was ‘obsessive about safety’. Provincial police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, said police had opened a murder docket, adding that no arrests had been made.
