High speed car chase rocks Sunningdale

A Durban North detective was injured in the line of duty today following a high speed car chase.

A HIGH speed chase rocked through Suningdale earlier today when police and suspected robbers were involved in a gun battle. The suspects had just broken into a home in Sunningdale. Police also recovered a flat screen TV and a police issued radio.

Durban North CPF chairman, Hayden Searles said the gun battle occurred at around noon today in Youngberry Crescent after the four suspects were spotted by the Durban North Field Detective’s Unit. “The chase ended in KwaMashu with the detectives being forced to force the suspects’ vehicle off the road. Unfortunately one of the police members was injured in the crash.”

Searles said all four suspects were arrested and that they recovered several firearms adding that it was too early to ascertain if the firearms were unlicensed at this stage. “We are extremely proud of this work by the policeman and we are sure that these suspects will be linked to various crimes that have taken place in the northern areas in recent months. We also would like to commend the officers for the bravery in tracking down these suspects,” Searles said.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Raymond Deakaran also commended his colleagues on the arrest saying, “This is great work.”
