Bogus municipal officials strike again

“They are targeting the elderly.”

POLICE have sent out a warning to residents to be on the lookout for conmen posing as municipal employees. According to Durban North SAPS spokesman, Lt Raymond Deokaran, another pensioner, who lives in Prospect Hall Road, was robbed yesterday of R1 200 after she let a man who claimed to be employed by the city into her home.

“He distracted the woman and in the process he managed to steal R1 200. She said he then simply jumped into his car and left. We want to warn people, especially the elderly, not to let people into their homes. They are specifically targeting the elderly,” he said.

Earlier this month, a scam artist made off with more than R300 000 in jewellery and R20 000 in cash from an elderly Glenashley couple.
