Support the ‘paw’fect cause

Support this year's fundraiser for the Durban & Coast SPCA.

THE annual SPCA Trail Run will take place on Sunday 30 August. The event now in its third year, attracted more than 500 runners to last years event. General manager of the Durban & Coast SPCA, Caroline Smith, is hoping to surpass that amount this year and is urging residents and families to support the cause. The trail offers a 5km and 14km route.

“This is one of our fund raisers for the SPCA and I’m confident there will be more than 500 entries at this year’s event. We receive no funding from the government and we rely solely on the generosity of the community we serve to support us and I’m hoping residents will come out in their numbers for the trail run.

“I’m entering the 5km this year and will be doing it with my family and there will also be a ‘Team SPCA’, including our mascot Dougal, who will be running the 14km route,” she enthused.

Durban North resident and Riverside Trail member, Alison Chadwick, said the event was about raising funds for animals who don’t have a voice.

“This is one of four fund raisers Riverside Trail is organising this year and this is about giving back to the SPCA that does so much for the animals. I love animals and we are their voice and I’ll certainly be running this year’s event. It’s the perfect event for the family and friends and for a morning of fresh air, fun and exercise.

“The route follows an undulating scenic route along the banks of the Umgeni River, enjoying various types of terrain, from singletrack to grass to gravel and a floating bridge for those doing the longer distance,” Alison said.
