Pedestrian held up at knifepoint

Before robbing their victim, the suspects are said to have distracted him by asking for the time.

A PEDESTRIAN was accosted and robbed at knifepoint by three brazen men on North Coast Road earlier this week.
The victim was allegedly approached by the first suspect while waiting at a robot near the train station. The suspect is said to have distracted the victim by asking him for the time, said Greenwood Park SAPS spokesperson, W/O Leon Audh.
At that point they were joined by two other men, one of whom produced a knife. They demanded cash and immediately began searching the victim, taking around R200 from him, added Audh.
However, the robbers were soon interrupted as a police patrol vehicle drove past the scene and the suspects fled as soon as they spotted the van.
No arrests have been made, but Audh confirmed that a case of armed robbery was opened at the station
“We urge our commuters and pedestrians to refrain from carrying large amounts of cash on person, and to try and walk in groups. You are much more susceptible to being attacked if you are alone than in you are in a group,” said Audh.
