Residents race to save dumped puppies

Despite the efforts of the rescue party, they could not locate the abandoned puppies.

AN URGENT appeal regarding dumped puppies on the N2 near the uMhlanga off-ramp rallied response from several residents, who frantically combed the roadside to find the canines.

Unfortunately, the rescue party only managed to find the body of one of the pups.

The party quickly rallied at around 9am this morning after a desperate appeal was posted on the Durban North Neighbours Facebook page by local resident, Gail Miller.

“Please someone help. My son has just driven passed a whole bunch of puppies abandoned on the island in the middle of the M4, just passed [sic] the uMhlanga off-ramp. He says there are about 13. Can anyone please go save them?” she wrote in the post.

Within minutes, Scott McCann responded to the post, rushing to the scene. He was later joined by Justine Maher, Deon Steyn,  Durban and Coast SPCA staff as well as Steve Smit of Monkey Helpline.

The pup, estimated to be 10 weeks old, was found dead near the pedestrian bridge. Sadly, their efforts were in vain as they were unable to locate any other pups.
