Soccer star inspires young minds

AmaZulu and Bafana Bafana defender, Marc Van Heerden, shared some words of wisdom at the Glenashley Preparatory School recently.

PUPILS at Glenashley Preparatory School were left star-struck last week when they rubbed shoulders with soccer star Marc van Heerden.

The Durban North resident, who has represented the country as a defender for the AmaZulu and Bafana Bafana teams, gave a motivational speak at the school last week.

Van Heerden signed his first pro contact when he was only 16 years old. He said he believes that it is never too early to motivate a sense of hard work, pride and dedication among the younger generations.

“They are the future of soccer and of the country, so it is an honour to give them some advice on what they need to succeed in life,” he said.

When asked what advice he had for talented young soccer players he urged them to join a local soccer club where they could develop their skills.

“Hard work and dedication is important to achieving your dream, but it is also important to never forget your values, who you are as a person, or where you come from,” he said.
