Vintage wheels take centre stage

The Durban Early Car Club and Widows' Sons Masonic Riders' Association join forces to foster a love of vintage cars and bikes.

WHAT do vintage cars and motor bikes have in common? According to La Lucia resident Jaques Kalil, the trill of the ride.

Kalil, who is the a committee member of Durban Early Car Club and Gary Baney, the president of the Durban-based Widows’ Sons Masonic Riders’ Association, recently joined forces to host a Vintage Car Expo at the Natal Mounted Rifle grounds in Durban.

The aim of the expo was not only to raise awareness about the clubs, but also to encourage interest in vintage cars and motor bikes. Members of both clubs were urged to showcase some of their prise vintage wheels at the event.

“Anyone who owns a car older than 20 years can join the club. We schedule regular outings where we take the cars out on a road trip. Additionally as a club we also participate in various charity rides,” said Kallil.

Baney, who is a Durban North resident, said they were impressed with the turnout they experienced and were hoping to organise the event on an annual basis. “As a club we raise funds for the widows and orphans of the Freemasons. It is a wonderful initiative filled with camaraderie,” he said.

At the event the Widow’s Sons also took the opportunity to officially initiate five new members. Contact Kalil on 083 457 9852 or Baney on 082 264 5348.
