High speed collision leaves one dead, nine injured

Paramedics had to rescue two people who were trapped under one of the vehicles, while another was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 39-year-old man was killed while three others were left seriously injured following a high speed collision at the intersection of North Coast Road and Blackburn Road last night.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find absolute mayhem after a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided, leaving three people trapped underneath the one vehicle,” said Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical.

“On closer assessment it was discovered that one of the trapped people, a man believed to be in his late thirties, had already succumbed to his extensive injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do to save him. He was declared dead on arrival,” he added.

Two other patients were trapped under the vehicle. They, along with a second driver, were in a critical state.

Advanced life support intervention was required to stabilise them before they were rapidly transported to a nearby hospital.

Five other people sustained moderate injuries in the incident and were treated and stabilised on scene.

The road remained closed while emergency services worked to free the injured.

The cause of the incident and the facts pertaining to it are unclear.
