Umhlanga shooting still being investigated

Durban North SAPS deny they have 'bungled' a shooting case on Lagoon Drive.

ALLEGATIONS levelled against the Durban North SAPS sweeping a shooting incident ‘under the rug’ have been squashed by the station’s spokesman, Lt Raymond Deokaran. This comes after two men, Scotty Corlett and Brad Ferreira were shot outside the Ocean Basket, Flo Lounge and Diamond Grill & Lounge parking lot at about 1am last Saturday. The incident occurred on Lagoon Drive. An altercation between three men led to one of the them, pulling out a pistol and shooting Corlett and Ferreira in the legs.

A post on the Facebook page South Africa: The New Killing Fields, shows pictures of the men in hospital recovering. A number of people on social media have also alleged a cover up and the loss of the investigating docket after the accused was released on bail.

According to Deokaran, however, the matter is still under investigation

“Should the person be arrested, it is possible that he or she obtain police bail or after hours bail though a prosecutor. The alleged shooter (28), a Durban North resident, paid an after hours bail of R1 000 through his lawyer after his arrest on Monday last week,” he explained. “The allegations that the docket has been lost and a cover up is going on is incorrect. The incident is still under investigation. The matter is being handled by one of our detectives. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage,” he said.
