TREE shows its love for Briardene

Local NGO treats children from Briardene Informal Settlement to Mandela Day surprise.

TREE (Training & Resources in Early Education) celebrated Mandela Day by giving back to the children of Briardene Informal Settlement. The NPO specialises in early childhood development and also offers accredited courses to help women from rural areas set up crèches as well as develop wooden toys made on the premises that stimulate children’s cognitive abilities.

Bertha Magoge, director of the organisation, said the day was about remembering Nelson Mandela.

“Tata Madiba always had a special place for children in his heart and we decided to dedicate today to bringing laughter and joy to these young children. As an organisation that primarily works with children, we thought we’d offer children an experience they don’t get.

“There’s been some puzzle building, colouring-in and a lot of fun on the jungle gym. I think he is smiling and watching this and what’s also beautiful is the lasting smiles on the children’s faces. I’d like to thank the volunteers from TREE and the informal settlement for their support,” she said.
