Brazen robbers target school chapel

Robbers wearing beanies attempt to rob Durban North school chapel.

LOCAL residents praying at a Durban North school chapel had a lucky escape after four men gatecrashed the property and attempted to rob them. The incident occurred at about 5.43pm on Thursday evening.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said a resident neighbouring the property spotted the robbers entering the school premises wearing beanies.

“Our officer was alerted to the intrusion after the people who were praying heard a lot of noise and ran and pressed the panic button. Four men wearing beanies we spotted on the school property but they jumped into their vehicle and fled when the alarm was sounded,” he said.

Jackson said the burglars did not get a chance to gain entry into the building on the property and nothing was reported stolen.

“We urge schools to check that security systems are working optimally during the holidays as this is unfortunately the second incident in which burglars have targeted schools over the past two weeks. It’s also good idea to install external beams and anti-gatecrashing kits on all gates to ensure an early warning system should criminals attempt to tamper with the gate,” he said.
