Rovers rumbles past stumbling Crusaders

Rovers put five tries past struggling Crusaders team.

THE Jonsson College Rovers blew past the Nashua Crusaders in their Fidelity Moor Cup clash on Friday evening. The away team was the dominant team in the first half, but in the second forty lost their structure and were made to pay as the Rovers’ backline scored five unanswered tries to clinch the game 33-9.

The ‘Saders were first on the board through the boot of flyhalf, Gareth Pritchard. He slotted over two penalties before Rovers scored the first try of the game, much against the run of play. One more penalty from Pritchard was all the boys from the North could muster in a first half they dominated.

The second half, however, saw a completely different picture. Rovers scored three tries in the second half to end the game as a contest. Crusaders coach, Ronnie Uys, said he was gutted to have lost the game but insisted it was a game of two halves.

“We played extremely well in the first half and I felt we held the upper hand. Then we had a few injuries and we had to reshuffle our pack and backline, which didn’t really help. That said, I can’t make any excuses: hats off to Rovers. They were the better team on the day. We lost our structure in the second half when we needed to pull together. We have to go back to the drawing boards ahead of next week’s home game again the Zululand Rhinos,” Uys said.
