Local resident reunited with lost pet

A Sunningdale resident found his cat who has been missing for three years at a crime scene.

A SUNNINGDALE resident has been reunited with his beloved pet cat, Mia, three years after she went missing from his home on Village Way.

The incredible scene played out, bizarrely, at a crime scene, as Tyron Powell was responding to a house break-in on Sunshine Drive. She was found just three houses away, one street down from her home.

“I saw this cat at one of the neighbour’s houses across the street and she looked remarkably just like Mia. She was staring at me and I called her over and she walked over and flopped on her back for a tummy scratch. It was when I picked her up that I realised that this was my cat.

“She has a weird bone that sticks out of her chest since she was born. And that’s what made me realise she was my cat. It was a surreal moment. I asked the people whose house she was at how they knew her. They told me that three years ago, she ended up at their doorstep and they began feeding her. It was just so amazing to reunite with her, it was a truly special moment,” he said.

Powell said he ‘devastated’ when Mia went missing and spent weeks looking for her. He would often drive around the neighbourhood looking for her.

“She loved the outdoors and there were times she would go away for long hours and come back late in the evening. When she started disappearing for almost a day, I bought a collar for her with her name and my contact details. But the day I brought the collar home was the day she went missing.

“I kept hold of the collar and had placed it on the key holder in the hopes that one day she would come back and it happened. It’s great to have her back and she’s settling back in at the moment. My wife and I are just so happy to have her back,” he said.
