Pharmacy reopens after car crash

The car that crashed into a Durban North pharmacy has been removed while the two injured staff make a slow recovery following the harrowing incident yesterday.

THE two staff members, who were injured when a car crashed into the Alpha Pharm Northlands Pharmacy yesterday, ‘miraculously’ escaped relatively unscathed.

Initial reports suggested that the driver of the car, Gillian Stone, was injured, but Rosemary Payne, a pharmacist at the dispensary on Mackeurtan Avenue, confirmed today that two staff members were injured during the crash.

Stone and her passenger did not sustain any injuries, but were left traumatised.

According to Chris Botha of Netcare 911, the staff members sustained minor to serious injuries. He said they were treated on scene before being transported to a local hospital.

“They were assessed and X-rayed and miraculously neither had sustained any broken bones. I can only describe it as a miracle,” said Payne.

The damage to the store, she said, had not yet been assessed, and while the till points had been ‘wiped out’, the main computer is still operational.

“We are all a bit traumtised after yesterday’s incident, but we are open and we are trading,” she said.
