Durban North couple searches for family heirloom

Following the theft of a precious family heirloom, a couple has turned to the public to help them track it down.

A DURBAN North couple is desperately in search of a diamond ring that was stolen from their apartment on Monday night, and has turned to Facebook for assistance.

The ring, which belonged to Dina Raal’s great-grandmother, has been in the family for nearly 80 years.

Her fiancé, Louwrens Odendaal, made the plea on a local radio station’s Facebook page, saying, “Someone broke into my fiancée’s apartment in Durban North on Monday night and stole a lot of things of value that can be replaced. The one thing that can’t be replaced is her great-grandmother’s wedding ring.”

He asked fellow residents to keep an eye out for the ring in Durban pawn shops. According to Odendaal, a defining feature of the ring is that one of the diamonds at the end is a different colour to the rest as it fell out and was replaced.

The box that it was in at the time of the theft is also unique – it is diamond-shaped and transparent, he added.
