The Victory Christian Academy pupil and teacher who survived Friday's accident on the R102 are in recovery.

TWO of the people involved in the horrific accident that claimed the lives of four Victory Christian Academy pupils on the R102 last Friday are recovering and doing well. The children, in their mid-teens, were travelling in a mini-bus with about 12 people on their way back from an adventure camp when a truck collided head-on with the mini-bus.

Tamia Sewparsad, 13, Saisha Shampersad, 14, Andrea Thaver, 17, and Caitlyn Oliver, 14, were killed tragically in the accident while teacher, Kris Ackerman, who was seriously injured, is still on a ventilator and in an induced coma. Another pupil injured in the accident, Muhle Qwabe, is on a ventilator and has swelling on the brain.

Qwabe was admitted into theatre on Monday morning to relieve pressure on the brain. According to Qwabe’s mother, she is  out of theatre and all went well. She also thanked everyone for their prayers and support through the school’s Facebook page

Kris Ackerman is in ICU in a critical but stable condition. His family also took to Facebook to thank everyone for their support.

“His doctors are happy with his progress and he is fighting and we appreciate each and every pray (sic). We continue to pray for healing for all. Thanks… The Ackermans,” the post read.

On Saturday the school, which is in mourning, asked that residents keep praying for them.
