Runaway truck leaves eight injured

Truck driver crashes into traffic lights, then a taxi, then runs away.

EIGHT people were injured after a truck smashed through the intersection of Queen Nandi Drive and Marselle Crescent this afternoon before ploughing into a taxi. According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, the driver of truck could not be found when paramedics arrived on scene.

“Bystanders allege the trucks parking brakes appeared to have failed causing it to roll down the hill, ploughing through the intersection, knocking over two sets of traffic lights before colliding with a taxi full of commuters. Eight passengers were treated on scene for moderate injuries before being transported by ambulance to various accepting hospitals nearby,” he said.

Traffic was severely affected and the South African Police Services were on scene to assist.
