Rinaldo’s Robot Man gets a new companion

THERE’S a new dog on the Rinaldo Road block, albeit a mechanical one. The latest addition to the Robot Man family hasn’t yet been given a name, but he has been given a job, to protect and keep him company.

The longstanding citizen, made out of old car parts, is the brainchild of Terry Schult. The 60-year-old said his creation has garnered a lot of attention over the years, with people stopping outside his house to pose for a picture with the man. However, it has also received some unwanted attention, with pranksters trying to make off with the six-year creative piece.

“That’s why I created the dog, to protect Robot Man from being pinched or kidnapped. All in all it took me two days to build and I used engine parts from a Mercedes and parts from Isuzu that make up the iron dog. Unfortunately the Robot Man’s wife faded away two years ago and I felt he needed a companion, and who could answer that call but man’s best friend,” he joked.

Schult describes himself as the oldest teenager of Glen Anil, and said he has also created a warthog for when the iron dog needs a companion. The Robot Man, who is one of the busy road’s most famous residents, has featured in Northglen News more than five times and has even been used in a local company’s Amazing Race day.

The local resident, who is like a modern-day Archimedes, loves to build things out of old engine parts.

“I’ve also built plant holders out of crankshafts and a rather large metal elephant. It’s something of a pastime and something I’m passionate about. I hope the Robot Man and his newest companion will continue to make people smile when they drive past,” he said.
