Riverside to host youth festival

Riverside Hockey Club to host youth tournament which has been running for 11 years.

FLEDGLING hockey enthusiasts are in for a treat as the biggest mini hockey festival in South Africa is fast approaching. The annual Spur Riverside Festival is taking place on Youth Day, 16 June, at KZN’s Riverside Hockey Club, where all hockey fanatics between nine and 13 years of age will gather to take part in a day of family fun and pure hockey enjoyment.

According to Derek Field, Head of Riverside Hockey Club’s Junior Division, the objective of the tournament is to celebrate the energy and exuberance of the youth within their community through the fun and active sport of hockey.

“This is our eleventh year hosting this tournament and every year the attendance numbers have grown. This year we are hoping to out-do last year’s participation of 91 teams. It’s a great family day out where the kids are always the focus, and we are delighted to have Spur involved as a main sponsor,” Field said.

All parents of young hockey players in the area wanting to participate are encouraged to e-mail the hockey club (junior@riversidehockey.co.za) before 9 June; no late entries will be accepted thereafter.
