Municipality warns of electricity rebate scam

Pensioners are being targeted in an electricity rebate scam.

THE eThekwini Municipality has warned residents of a scam targeting pensioners in regard to completing forms for rebates on electricity consumption increases.

Thozi Mthethwa, eThekwini Municipality’s Communications Head, confirmed that no additional forms are required to be completed apart from the annual renewal rebate applications and new application forms.

“Customers are urged to be vigilant to avoid falling prey to criminals posing as municipal employees. Any representative of the municipality will have an ID tag with a photograph, ID or employee number with the municipal logo.

“If residents are suspicious of anything, they can e-mail Revline (revline@revcall.co.za),” she said.
