Victim identifies robber three months later

Victim spots robber working as a gardener in Sunningdale three months after being robbed.

A VICTIM of an armed robbery identified her alleged robber, three months after her ordeal. What’s more, the man was spotted working as a gardener at a Sunningdale home when she positively identified him. According to chairman of the Greenwood Park CPF, Robin Candy, the man is in police custody.

Candy told the Northglen News that he arrived at the scene shortly after he received the report. He immediately contacted a local security company and the SAPS.

“The lady, who was renting a property on Beech Road, was held up at knife-point in February of this year. The suspect climbed through a bathroom window and tied her up and gagged her before making off with her laptop, cellphone and other items,” he explained.

“Then, at around lunchtime yesterday (26 May), while walking, she spotted the man working as a gardener at a property on Sugarfarm Trail in Sunningdale. She immediately phoned the owner of the home she was renting, who in turn contacted me. When I arrived at the scene, I asked if she was a 100 per cent sure that he was the man. She was adamant and assured me he was.”

The alleged suspect denied any wrongdoing and was detained by the Durban North SAPS.

“I phoned Marshall Security for back-up and they arrived soon after. When I approached the man, I asked him to come and speak to a lady who alleges he robbed in February. His reply was, “That lady walking past just now?”, and denied any involvement. The Greenwood Park SAPS are now checking his fingerprints to link him to any crimes,” Candy concluded.
