URD accident debris leads to bike crash

Driver crashes into barrier on Umhlanga Rocks Drive, causes secondary accident because of debris.

UMHLANGA Rocks Drive (URD) was closed to traffic in both directions on Friday night, at about 10pm, following two accidents in close proximity. According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, the first accident was caused by a driver who lost control of his vehicle.
“An 18-year-old driver lost control of his BMW causing it to careen across the roadway and collide with the armco barrier on the opposite side of the road. He remarkably sustained no injuries. While paramedics were attending to the scene they were alerted to the sound of a secondary collision as a driver of a scooter.
“A man in his thirties lost control of his bike due to the debris left on the road way from the initial collision, causing him to slide across the tarmac. He sustained a suspected fractured limb and was treated on scene before being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.
