Woman shot dead at uMhlanga flat

Police make grisly discovery in uMhlanga.

A 38-YEAR-OLD doctor from Mthatha was found murdered at her uMhlanga holiday flat on Meridian Drive on Wednesday morning. She was found covered with a duvet with a single gun shot wound to the head. Police have arrested the woman’s husband.  Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said the man (38) was nabbed at King Shaka Airport after making several calls to family members saying he was going to kill himself.

“According to the a family member, the couple had booked into a hotel in the city. It’s alleged the husband spotted another man in the car with his wife. He then got into his wife’s car and drove to their holiday flat on Meridian Drive.

“It is alleged an argument broke out and the husband went back to the CBD to confront the man he saw earlier. He then phoned several family members saying he was going to kill himself.

“Police officers tried to trace the man’s cellphone but he kept switching it off in between calls. We were eventually called to the holiday flat in uMhlanga where we found his wife’s body, face up, with a gun shot wound to the head. There were no signs of a struggle and we assume she was murdered while asleep,” he said.

Through gathered intelligence police eventually traced the husband to King Shaka Airport.

“He was found at the airport where he was arrested. A loaded gun was found his vehicle in the airport’s parking lot. He is currently in our cells at the station and will appear in Verulam Magistrates’ Court soon. A case of murder has been opened,” he said.
