Puppies find their ‘paw-fect’ home

Happy ending for puppies who were rescued from death's door.

WHEN Puppy SOS founder, David Hanson, rescued two one-week-old pups from the side of a busy road in Stanger, their chances of survival were minimal. Tom and Jerry are two puppies that were abandoned at the side of the road with no way to fend for themselves.

Their brothers and sisters from the litter had allegedly been run over while trying to cross the busy road. However, not only did the duo make a full recovery, but they have also found the perfect home.

The pups were recently adopted by the Drieselmann family from uMhlanga. Father of two, Norman, said he was looking for puppies when he saw the article in the Northglen News.

“I’m known as a habitual ‘puppy looker’. In truth, we were originally going to adopt just one of the pups, but you can’t have a Tom without a Jerry.

“Having two young children also made the decision easier, they get to grow up with pups. They were really shy and afraid when we brought them home, but their transformations in the past few weeks have been incredible. They have gained confidence and developed such different personalities.

“Tom can’t stop eating, and Jerry likes getting up to mischief. The first night they arrived, my sons, Hayden and Ethan, made up beds for them at the side of their beds.

I just can’t fathom how someone could be so cruel to animals and leave them to fend for themselves on the side of the road,” he said.

Drieselmann’s son, Hayden, said he was thrilled with his new friends.

“I love them, they have already to come watch me at soccer practice and have come to Giba Gorge to cycle. They love to chase me around and bite my pants, but I enjoy it,” enthused the youngster.
