THE Mount Edgecombe Country Club played host to the Mount Edgecombe PGA PRO-AM recently. The golf tournament was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Umhlanga, and all KZN PGA pros, apprentices and amateurs were invited to participate.

An impressive total of 80 players took on the challenge, with Steven Shearer from Zimbali Golf Course winning the pro division with a score of 68 and 39 points. In the amateur division, Shearer’s four ball also came out tops, with Monica Blomefield, Graham Inggs and James Herbert taking home stunning Callaway stand bags thanks to their 91 points.

Resident pro of Mount Edgecombe Country Club, Hans Jonck, as well as club captain of Mount Edgecombe Country Club, Billy van der Berg and fellow staff members from the club facilitated the prize-giving ceremony, held in the Kingfisher Room at the clubhouse.

“The tournament was a huge success, with some great golf being played and lots of fun being had on the course. A special thanks goes out to all the sponsors,” said Jonck.

The tournament is the fourth to have taken place this year, with 10 more scheduled to be played during the course of the year. In addition to the excitement and prizes handed out during the tournament, pros also get points allocated for the KZN order of merit, which affects their respective Sunshine Tour standings and PGA rankings.
