R154 000 in cash recovered after arrests

Two men were arrested and charged with housebreaking and theft in Durban North.

MORE than R150 000 in cash was recovered after Marshall Security arrested two men, believed to be burglars, in the early hours of yesterday morning in Durban North.

According to the company’s Tyron Powell, the control room initially received a call from a client in the Broadway area, reporting a possible break-in at a business premises just before 1am.

“Two men had allegedly broken into an office and taken a large amount of cash and two cellphones. We apprehended the two fleeing suspects on the grounds of the Crusaders Rugby Club in Ranleigh Crescent a short while later. A total of R114 000 in cash (some on the suspects, the rest in nearby bushes) as well as the two cellphones were recovered by our unit.

“A further amount of R40 000 was later found by SAPS members inside the suspects’ clothing. The money was returned to the owner and the final sum of R154 000 in stolen cash was recovered,” he said.

The men were charged for housebreaking and theft.
