Share you tunes on Twitter

Twitter users are now able to easily share their favourite tracks on the social media site, following a partnership with a music subscription service, Rhapsody.

TWITTER mobile users will now be able to easily share and stream full-length tracks on the popular micro bogging platforms, following a recent partnership with Rhapsody.

The music subscription service will enable both subscribers and non-subscribers to share and stream more than 30 million tracks via the social media network’s ‘card’ technology.

This means the the songs will be displayed and accessible natively, similarly to the other shared media, such as photos and video clips.

While, the dominant streaming music service, Spotify and most of its competitors, already allow users to share their favourite tunes on Twitter, they don’t utilise Twitter’s card facility, which means in order to play the music they’ll get kicked out to another application.

Imagine hearing a brand new track and being able to instantly find and share that song with one’s followers. Romantics will now also be able to tweet love ballads to their significant other at the drop of a hat.

“Music has always been a shared experience, but it’s become very personal and there hasn’t been a way via social media to take advantage of the social aspects of music,” said Ethan Rudin, Rhapsody’s chief financial officer.

This, however, is not Twitters first attempt at integrating music into the popular application. Twitter #Music, attempted to capitalise on the extensive discussions of music on the social media site, but it failed nearly a year after its launch
