Local shutterbug starts stock photo site

Prestondale resident and photographer creates website to help SA photographers get into the market.

PRESTONDALE resident, Nick Ferreira, is a man of many talents, and self-admittedly is a man with a finger in many pies. The 30-year-old recently began SA Stock, a stock photography website, in the hopes of giving up-and-coming and established photographers a chance of getting into the international market.

“For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved taking photographs. Being out there, capturing moments and crowd reactions. It may sound clichéd, but photography is something I’m passionate about. The idea to set up a stock photo website was something a mate and I thought of a while back. So when it came to building a website, I knew the look I wanted and how it needed to flow. In all it took me a day to create the site.

“The difference to this site from others is that, whereas other stock sites take a percentage of the photographer’s sales, on this site every sale made goes 100 per cent to the respective photographer. There are tons of other stock photography websites online, but to become a contributor is quite a process. I created SA Stock to help SA photographers get into the market,” he explained.

Ferreira has created a number of websites, including the Durbanite, 9Greg and a website chronicling his dream of becoming a pilot.

“If people are interested they have to have a PayPal account, and photos can be from anywhere in South Africa. So far I’ve had 70 photos submitted to the site, which is about three weeks old, and I’m hoping the site will grow and allow photographers to make names for themselves,” Ferreira said.
