Durban North criminals strike by day

According to the Greenwood Park CPF, criminals have recently become more active during the day.

BRAZEN criminals in Durban North and surrounding areas are increasingly committing crimes by day, said Brain Daish, chairman of sector 4 of the Greenwood Park Community Police Forum, earlier today.

According to Daish, the monthly sub-forum meeting revealed that the majority of recent house break-ins and robberies, as well as motor vehicle thefts, are occurring during the day.

“This means that the criminals strike when the home owners are likely to be at work and not at home, but this places the domestic workers and gardeners in danger,” he said.

Residents were urged to implement security measures, such providing the workers with panic buttons or the emergency numbers of the home owners’ security companies, and educating them about security procedures.

Gardeners have been attacked in High Grove and Delaware Avenue in recent months, and in January a domestic worker was also robbed at knife point when two men targeted a home on Westridge Road in uMhlanga at 1pm.

Last week Thursday, a La Lucia resident and her domestic worker were also held at gunpoint as a group of robbers ransacked the home on Anil Road. The incident occurred at around noon.
