Bizarre accident leads to ‘flying car’

Traffic brought to a standstill on North Coast Road after accident.

PARAMEDICS arrived at the scene of bizarre accident on Chris Hani (North Coast) Road northbound yesterday afternoon in which a car mounted the concrete barrier and looked, from some angles, to be a flying car.

It’s believed the driver of a red Toyota swerved to avoid a car ahead of him, and ended up sitting on top of the barrier.

According to Crisis Medical’s Neil Powell, the accident occurred close to the Engen garage at about 5pm.

“The police are still trying to investigate what caused the accident, but we believe the driver of the red Toyota swerved to avoid hitting the car in front of him, which had slowed down at a pedestrian crossing,” Powell explained.

“I’ve never seen anything as bizarre as this. Luckily no one was injured in the accident. The Toyota was actually resting on the barrier, and from some angles looked like it was flying,” Powell chuckled.

This follows a similar accident recently where a taxi forced a car onto the roundabout island on on Umhlanga Rocks Drive.
