24 children injured in minibus crash

More than 20 passengers injured in the accident were primary school children.

TWENTY seven people were injured when the driver of a minibus taxi, transporting school pupils, lost control of his vehicle and overturned. The accident occurred earlier this morning at the Blackburn Estate, near Mt Edgecombe. According to KZN Emergency Medical Services spokesman, Robert McKenzie, at least 24 of the passengers were primary school children.

“The minibus is believed to have left the road and overturned. The majority of the patients had sustained only minor injuries, while, three of the patients had sustained serious injuries. Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and a local private ambulance service assessed and treated the children on scene before transporting them to a Phoenix clinic,” he said.

McKenzie added the cause of the crash at this stage is being investigated by the police.
