Acclaimed school production of ‘Othello’ returns

'Othello' will be staged in the Playhouse Drama from 16 February to 20 March.

THINK Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ returns to the Playhouse stage for its seventh revival next week. A vital learning aid facility for secondary school learners studying Shakespeare’s stage tragedy as a set work, the production is widely appreciated by school teachers, learners and their parents. As ever before the great work continues to hold today’s audiences in its grip, as its core themes of love, envy, corruption and betrayal remain powerfully relevant to the human condition.

‘Othello’ will be staged in the Playhouse Drama from 16 February to 20 March. The production will also receive performances in Richards Bay, Port Shepstone and Northern KZN between 23 and 26 March. Presented in association with the Playhouse Company, ‘Othello’ is directed by Clare Mortimer. Nhlakanipho Manqele plays Othello, Cara Roberts appears as his doomed young wife, Desdemona, and Clinton Small as the evil Iago. Casting also includes Mortimer, Michael Gritten, Marc Kay, Bryan Hiles, Rowan Bartlett, Darren King and Caitlin Kilburn.

School performances of ‘Othello’ are at 9am and 12pm daily, Monday to Friday. Booking is through Doreen Stanley on 033 343 4884 or 084 556 0668, fax: 086 402 9592 or 033 343 4884, or email doreen@thinktheatre.co.za.
