One injured in Umhlanga Rocks Drive crash

It's believed the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car before slamming into a wall.

ONE person was injured in yet another crash on Umhlanga Rocks Drive (URD) in the early hours of Saturday morning. It’s believed the driver of a white BMW lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Somerset Drive and URD and spun  out of control before crashing into a wall.

The road had to be cordoned off while police and rescue workers cleared away the pieces of metal and wreckage from the accident.

“The driver spun out of control and hit the wall of the newly constructed service station. The passenger of the vehicle suffered serious injuries while the driver escaped unscathed. However he was arrested by the police for reckless driving,” said Crisis Medical’s spokesman, Neil Powell.

Several residents have called for speed calming measures to be introduced on Umhlanga Rocks Drive, however the high accident zone road may only be looked in 2016 when the city upgrades the road as part of its multi-billion rand Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network.

This is the first serious accident since December last year when two people were also injured when their car overturned  on Umhlanga Rocks Drive.
