Brick-wielding thug kills Glen Anil man

A cell phone was the only item stolen after an elderly couple was assaulted.

ONCE again elderly residents have fallen prey to brutal criminals in Durban North.

Yesterday afternoon an elderly couple was assaulted by a cold-blooded intruder on Allamanda Road in Glen Anil. The husband later died due to the severity of his injuries.

According to W/O Lutchman Singh, acting communications officer at Greenwood Park SAPS, the husband and wife were ruthlessly bludgeoned with a brick.

“According to reports the suspect had approached the victims before the attack, inquiring about a job. The couple told him that they had no job available and he left. He returned at approximately 12pm, entered their property and attacked the couple with a brick,” he said.

The husband sustained injuries to the head, while his wife was struck on the chest. Her injuries were minor, and she is in a stable condition.

After the assault the suspect grabbed the couple’s car keys and attempted to flee with their vehicle, but after he failed to start the car he fled on foot. All that was stolen from the home was a cell phone.

In September last year an elderly Durban North woman was stabbed three times during a home invasion in Fairway.

Earlier this week a Durban North woman sustained serious injuries to her face when robbers smashed her passenger window with a piece of concrete during a hijacking on Blackburn Road.
