Update: Brick victim was followed from mall

New information has surfaced regarding a robbery on Blackburn Road.

NEW details have surfaced following Sunday’s robbery on Blackburn Road, during which a woman sustained serious injuries to her face after robbers smashed the passenger window with a piece of concrete.

According to Tyronne Powell of Marshall Security, the robbers targeted the woman and the driver of the vehicle as they pulled into the driveway of a complex on Blackburn Road at approximately 6.20pm.

The couple had begun to reverse into the driveway when the suspects stopped in front of the vehicle, blocking their escape. It is suspected that the robbers followed the victims from the China Mall.

“The suspects were armed, but for some reason did not use their firearms. Instead, one of the men grabbed a piece of concrete and threw it through the passenger window. It hit the woman in the face, injuring her severely. Initially people thought that it was a gunshot, but after the woman was treated it was revealed that she was not shot,” said Powell.

After smashing the window the suspects grabbed a bag containing thousands of Rands from the vehicle and fled the scene. According to eye witnesses, three suspects wearing balaclavas were involved in the incident.

The woman was taken to the uMhlanga Hospital for treatment. Powell added that she was in a stable condition.
