Trish remains young at heart

At the age of 93, Trish Campbell, says she has maintained her independence and regularly plays bowls.

AGE is but a number for spritely local resident, Trish Campbell, who celebrated her 93rd birthday last week Wednesday.

An interview with the Northglen News proved that the local resident not only exhibits exceptional health, but has a memory sharper than a whip.“I don’t feel old. I have never worn glasses and still have my independence. I still drive and play bowls,” said the proud resident.

Fellow bowlers at the Northlands Bowling Club all praised Campbell and her vivacious love of life.

She attributes her longevity to living in moderation and having a positive attitude. “I do everything in moderation. I occasionally have a drink and I have never smoked. I believe the power lies in positive thinking and having a positive attitude. I have had to go through several operations, one on my wrist, and every time I thought that I would never be able to play again, but then I realised that I still wanted to play and then I just kept playing,” she said.

Good genes could also be credited for Campbell’s vitality, as her mother and father died at the ages of 80 and 71, and her grandmother lived to the age of 96. Campbell was born in Kimberley and moved to KwaZulu-Natal when she was 35 years old. She has outlived both her brothers as well as her husband.

Fortunately her two children, four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren are still actively involved in her life and help keep the inspiring senior young at heart.
