Duran North matrics excel

Danville, Northlands and Our Lady Fatima's top matric results revealed.

IMMENSE pride and excitement was the order of the day as matrics from around the country received their results.

Danville Park Girls’ High School has achieved another set of outstanding Matric results with no fewer than 18 girls achieving seven distinctions. An astounding 99.32 per cent of their pupils received a university entrance pass rate. Pupils and staff were also thrilled to boast that the school has had a 100 per cent pass rate for 21 consecutive years. The school’s top achiever, Varuna Maharaj, was one of the 18 pupils who earned a distinction in all seven of her subjects. She further distinguished herself by receiving the honours as Top Girl pupil in KwaZulu-Natal for maths and science, with an outstanding 99 per cent for science and 98 per cent for maths. Four of Danville’s girls, Roxanne Hattingh, Amy Pike, Rebecca Schoeman and Gemma Smith, achieved 100 per cent for visual arts.

Our Lady of Fatima Principal, Dee Horsfall, also expressed delight at their matric results. “Our 60th Jubilee Year has been an extraordinary year and the IEB matric results are the ‘cherry on the top’. I congratulate the teachers and girls on their skill and work ethic”. she said. Their matrics achieved a 100 per cent pass rate and a 100 per cent Bachelor Degree Pass. Horsfall was also delighted to announce that 12 of their pupils achieved an A aggregate and 23 learners achieved a B aggregate, which meant that 70 per cent of their pupils achieved either an A or B aggregate. The incredible success of the pupils were further highlighted by the fact that six pupils scored marks in the top one per cent of the follwoing subjects: business studies (Kelsey Daniel), English (Merryn Haller), geography ( Danielle Flood), visual arts ( Lucia Ma), maths literacy ( Katherine Maree and Tayla Van Straaten). The schools top pupils were, Danielle Flood, Kelsey Daniel and Carey Glover, who each received seven distinctions each.

Northlands Girls’ High School also celebrated exceptional matric results as eight two of their pupils, Megan Gibbs and Tasnim Amra, received eight distinctions. An additional six pupils earned seven distinctions; Sage Govender, Kuraycia Govender, Pravania Govender ( deputy head girl), Thushrika Govender, Shanay Paideya and Alyssa Sewsunker. Head girl, Sajel Singh, and fellow pupils, Mckayla Carstens, both achieved five distinctions. Carstens earned 100 per cent for visual arts.
