What a year at the Northglen News!

Some stories, covered in 2014 by the Northglen News, attracted a huge response from our readers.

THE year is drawing to close and the staff at the Northglen News are taking a break. Our offices will close this Thursday, 18 December and re-open on 2 January 2015. This year we placed emphasis on our website (www.northglennews.co.za) delivering breaking news as it happens to our readers.

We have covered numerous stories, the most profound of which, to my mind, was that of uMhlanga resident, Gayle Graham who was assaulted in Durban View Park in September. That story was shared 264 times on Facebook. Our readers were mostly appalled at the behaviour of Graham’s attacker while some had the audacity to say that she deserved it.
While that story was the most read, the story of a dog that was stabbed to death in Durban North also got our readers talking. That story reached more than 13 000 people and was shared 56 times.

On a lighter note, our story of the Durban North community rallying behind a car guard Jabu and his dog Patti who lived on Virginia Beach was heartwarming. We were inundated with calls from readers offering their help to Jabu and Patti. Through the article, Jabu who had never had any form of fixed employment in his life was offered a permanent job.

It’s been an interesting year with some interesting stories. We encourage our readers to contact us with news. You can call us on 031 562 1418 or check out our Facebook page. We are also av available on BBM: Pins; 29C5F174 or 2B9915C5.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
