Umhlanga Ski Club creates festive cheer

Local ski boat club throws Christmas party for more than 50 pensioners.

THERE was plenty of festive cheer and spirit as the Umhalnga Ski Boat Club hosted a Christmas party for more than 50 residents from The Association for the Aged (TAFTA) on Friday. Holiday festivities brightened the day of several residents who sang their hearts out along with members of the club while others, despite their age, could not resist taking to the dance floor.

Liz van Huyssteen, a member of the ski boat club and one of the organisers, said the day was about making the residents feel special.

“For many of the people here today, this is their first outing in the whole year, so it’s fantastic to see such joviality and Christmas cheer. They feel so special which warms our hearts. We’ve had sing alongs, some dancing, great food and the residents were treated to Christmas gifts.

“Seeing the smiles on their faces makes it all worth it,” Liz added.

Yvonne Kruger, a TAFTA resident said she was blown away by the gesture.

“For an old person, this is just phenomenal. It’s my first time out of my apartment and what a wonderful way to spend a Friday. I’ve never laughed so much in my life. It’s truly a gift from God,” said an emotional Kruger.
